Artes Mundi (Fair Trade Gifts) is a family run Fair Trade company based in Aldreth which is about 7 miles SW of Ely in Cambridgeshire. Artes Mundi was founded in 2004 by husband and wife Siân and Mark Hugo.
All our stock comes from Fair Trade sources around the world, having been personally selected by us or our fair trade importers directly from the artist, craftsman or manufacturer at source in the country of origin.
We are a full member of the British Association of Fair Trade Shops (BAFTS) which underpins our total commitment to Fair Trade principles. Fair Trade means paying fair prices to craftsmen and craftswomen which reflect the true cost of production and committing to long term relationships to provide stability and security. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalized producers and workers
Our stock comes from a small number of sources in Indonesia, Africa, India, Asia and South America and all our producers are paid in advance for raw materials, when the order is placed and the remaining agreed balance on completion of the order.
Fair Trade ensures the craftsmen are able to take the time to produce high quality goods safe in the full knowledge that with a fair and regular income they and their families are able to plan their lives and their futures.
We sell our goods on this, our website, and also from our Fair Trade Shop in Aldreth (opening times) and from many outside events we attend. In addition we open our 1 acre cottage garden under the National Garden Scheme (NGS) for charity (open dates) when the Fair Trade shop is also open.
